Remembering Costa Rica - Part II

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from Costa Rica. These are all stolen from my facebook albums, but I have more saved on my external drive that I'd like to share with you later. But for this beautiful sunny afternoon, these will suffice.

This is from the Tabacon Hot Springs by Volcán Arenal with Jon's parents. It was literally like the garden of eden. The water was deliciously warm, and you could meander from hot pool, to hot pool, soaking up the jungle air. Mmmm...

Some fat crocs! On the way to Manuel Antonio, along the pacific coast, there is this bridge, and the crocodiles are always hanging around there, probably because the tourist throw sausage down to them.

I just love the emblem for the Costa Rican Police. These are the same guys who came out our house after it was robbed, put their feet up on our tables, and said, well, if you hadn't have moved stuff when you got home they would have dusted for finger prints...right after they helped these little children get to school.

It wasn't uncommon to see the ox pulling carts, especially in the smaller coastal communities. The change in lifestyle from the city to rural communities was often stark.

This photo is from just around the corner from our home in Heredia. It definitely took a while for me to get used to the idea that everyone lived behind bars. Some of my middle age English students would tell me about how when they were growing up it was not like this, and people were much more trusting and friendly.

I love this picture! It was taken on a bus ride somewhere, and I love how this guy had figured out a way to find a shady spot, no matter where he was.

This is from the National Museum in San José. While teaching in Heredia, I had the opportunity to take Spanish classes in the morning...it was an awesome benefit! This was on a field trip with one of my classes, Jon tagged along. The National Museum is filled with relics from pre-Columbian days. My favorites were the GIANT stone spheres.

Our little casita in Heredia. We shared a two bedroom apartment with a Costa Rican, named Alba. It was a lovely little home, but as you can see we lived behind bars.

So there is a little photo trip down memory lane. Now its time to get back to the real world. Jon and I are officially Portland residents again. Jon will be graduating this sunday from Law School...woohoo! Then next Thursday we head to Jamaica for one of his friend's wedding. And then 3 1/2 weeks later I'll be heading to Costa Rica!!!
